Sorry guys about the delay in posting this follow-up article on my last post. I am getting myself organize after getting my medical checkup result recently. Okay, let’s get back to business.

After asking”Should I start a blog to promote my business?”, the next question people are asking is ” Do I have resources to do it?” Okay, I would like to share an article here which is from Biz Stone about blogging.

Small to medium-sized companies will benefit from having a company blog - a blog operated by one person or a small team passionate about its work. The kind of blog I am talking about is different than the organized “Community Leader” approach taken by Macromedia.

A company blog doesn’t necessarily exist to answer questions or respond to bug alerts. A company blog may do some marketing or bragging, and it may post relevant updates, but it can also be humorous or even off-topic at times, like politics, sports, etc.

The idea is to get people coming back, to gain their trust and offer them something worth reading. At the same time, the company blog provides information about products and services. Once a following or readership has been established and people have built up trust, they feel they “know” the CEO of the company. And that’s good PR without really trying to be. It’s Authentic!

Hope this will gives you some idea how to do it and how to have the resources. When you have a blog or the company having a business blog, you need to consumes a greater share of your mind; you are constantly thinking about your topic as it relates to your blog, whether things you do and read belong on your blog, and how to keep your blog lively and active. Most probloggers advised that we need to devote between an hour or two a week to maintaining a blog is a must.

If you are self-employed professional, you most likely have to write your blog yourself. If you are a marketing professional at a company, someone at your company is going to have to take responsibility for the blog. That could be you, an outside writer you hire (you could hire me, if you like, :) ), or, more likely, either a subject-matter expert or a high-level executive.

The advantage of having a blog written by a subject-matter expert is that information-hungry consumers get valuable tips and advice firsthand from a genuine authority on the topic, without having it filtered through, and watered down by, multiple layers of corporate approval and the marketing department.

The advantage of having a blog written by the CEO is that customers get firsthand intelligence on the direction and mission of the company from its leader. Also, when the CEO writes the blog, no one else has to approve it, so there is no delay between composition and online posting.

Hope this will clear up your mind about having your own blog and how to maintain it. In my next post the next best question is “Do you have to be a good writer to write a blog?”.

I will elaborate on this in my next post, hopefully in 1 or 2 days time.

See ya around and wish you happy blogging.
