Soccer

Do you like sports? If you do we could discuss here.

When I was a kid my favorite sport is Football (to others) but not to American, Australian, Canadian, etc. I have to tell this coz’ I was in the States way back in 1984. =) If you wanna know about the difference go here: Football or Soccer

Here is some History of Soccer, in case that you have not known it.

History is for many quite complicated, including me. However, when it comes to the history of soccer it gets even harder! It gets harder because there is many origins of the same sport through-out the world. Some are a little bit different yet still similar to what we know and love today. The main similarity is that all of them were played with the feet, hence the name football! Every continent has its share and this is why soccer is loved throughout the world equally.

The oldest of the origins of soccer is probably from China. 300 or 400 years B.D. people living in China had a small challenge set up for them by the military. This test of skill was called “Ts’uh Kúh” and the participants were required to score a ball filled with feathers into a small net of around 40 centimeters. Of course they had to score with their foot and this is quite complicated for such a small goal!

In Japan they also have their own history of soccer. At around 600 A.D. a game similar to soccer was born. The objective was to play around with a ball in a circle without letting it fall. We still do this today at a practice session right?

Even though many places around the world had their own contributions, the modern version of soccer probably comes from Great Britain. In England it is said soccer was born at around the years 800 and evolved since then. It evolved into rugby and our loved football (a.k.a. soccer). Even though the sport was loved by the people, the government did not like it. They didn’t like it because it took too much time out of their people and instead of practicing for war fare they were having fun playing football. This is why as many source cite King Edward III banned football in the 1300’s. Other kings also tried suppressing the game but too many people loved it and did not care if they were jailed or punished if they played the game.

Soccer started becoming popular over the globe in the 1800’s. It spread from England to the rest of the world like a plague (a good one!). In the early 1900’s FIFA was formed and by 1930 there were professional leagues in a lot of countries. 1930 is also the year of the first world cup organized by the FIFA marking the official start of one of the few events that the whole world awaits for!

So what I like about Soccer is the similarity in Marketing or Networking. - “A Team work effort” -. One could not win a game without the whole team playing to the same goal that is to win matches or games. Similar to marketing or networking, we could not make it without everybody doing their part. In a company you could never make a profit if you are alone, in networking you will dilute in your own dream to succeed if you do not have an effective team.
