For the past 3 weeks I have been exploring Facebook and I like it there. Because Facebook is a community of 64 million members, it’s growing by 3% a week since January, especially with the 25 and older demographic. I have noticed more and more friends joining in the past few weeks.

To those who does not know about Facebook or simply new to networking allow me to brief you about Facebook. According to Wikipedia.org, Facebook is a social networking website that was launched on February 4, 2004. Originally called thefacebook, Facebook was founded by former-Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg (while at Harvard) who ran it as one of his hobby projects with some financial help from Eduardo Saverin. Within months, Facebook and its core idea spread across the dorm rooms of Harvard where it was very well received. Soon enough, it was extended to Stanford and Yale where, like Harvard, it was widely endorsed.

Before he knew it, Mark Zuckerberg was joined by two other fellow Harvard-students - Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes - to help him grow the site to the next level. Only months later when it was officially a national student network phenomenon, Zuckerberg and Moskovitz dropped out of Harvard to pursue their dreams and run Facebook full time. The website has now more than 64 million active users worldwide. From September 2006 to September 2007, the website’s ranking among all websites, in terms of traffic, increased from 60th to 7th, according to Alexa. It is also the most popular website for uploading photos, with 14 million uploaded daily.

After using facebook for quite sometime and have been doing some research gradually over the past few weeks, even some bloggers like doshdosh.com have written useful articles on Facebook marketing so I do think Facebook has a lot of potential for businesses and entrepreneurs looking for some targeted traffic. For instance, Facebook has a far greater amount of user features, communication channels and ad targeting possibilities.
