Is this another Shocking News?

This morning I woke up in the wee hours in Malaysia, approximately at 4:00am, just to catch the excitement of a football match between England and Croatia for a final qualifying match to UEFA Euro 2008 at Wembley Stadium via ASTRO (cable TV). Wow! what a match and make me glued to my chair with a mug of hot coffee.

Guess what happened? England LOST. The Three LIONS LOST. It’s all over for Steve McLaren. Needing only a draw to progress, England made the worst possible start as Niko Kranj?ar and Ivica Oli? found the net in the first quarter-hour to put Croatia in command, two up.

England rallied in the second period, however, Frank Lampard narrow down the deficit from the penalty spot in the 56th minute before Peter Crouch volleyed the equaliser nine minutes later. Just as it looked as if England would earn the point they needed, though, Petri? drilled in with 13 minutes left to finally kill off their challenge.

Croatia, however, refused to settle for a point and continued to press forward looking for a third goal. They got their reward in the 77th minute as two substitutes combined to devastating effect. Danijel Pranji? slipped a pass inside for Petri? to drill a 25-metre shot across Carson and restore their lead and, despite pressing forward in the final ten minutes, England’s efforts were all in vain.

Back to my question is this a shocking news? To my personal opinion it is not. Because in the whole qualifying matches, England does not play to their true potential and strength based on the Big Names in the Three Lions squad.

The news above is during the EURO2008, and this morning (malaysian time), the story has reversed in favor of England….oppss…I think the headline should be “Theo treble sinks Croats”, not England.

Theo Walcott came of age in an England shirt on Wednesday as he inspired a 4-1 victory over Croatia in their latest 2010 World Cup qualifier.

But Walcott refused to take all the credit for the result. “There were 11 stars, a whole team of stars out there today (this morning). We just showed to everyone involved with England, how strong we were as a unit. We just proved it, it was absolutely brilliant,” said the 19-year old who scored his first ever hattrick.

England need their star players sweat their shirt like they do in their clubs. They are a bunch of ordinary players in the england shirts but fearless lions while wearing their club’s shirt. Look at lampards’s performance at chelsea… Extraordinary..world class… But when in comes to england its as if a third division player is wearing the shirt. Gerrard is a die heart for liverpool but what about england. Where are the wing players for england. There in is none possessing an immense talent and even if there is they dont reproduce their performance for england. What about rooney. Brought in as the saviour of england blew england chances in the previous Major tournament against portugal. Scoring magnificent goals in his debut tournament is an underachiever. Owen the very much star rated footballer of ex-reds liverpool once known as a hero to england especially with his dazzling goal against Argentina in 1998 world cup is losing his skills and vision for goal since he moved to real madrid. Really disappointing when you analyse and see as a crystal clear cut that the talent england possess they should have won atleast a major tournament from Year 2002 to 2008. Having the most star players they have blown up all their chances from the 4 tournaments between those years. They really had a genuine chance of winning the tournament during those years but it always come that england under perform or make out silly mistakes just as in the 2002 world cup against Brazil….seaman was dreaming infront of so many spectators to let in the goals from brazil. It was perhaps their best chance with the team beating one of the favourites of the tournament but no it needed them to throw their 1-0 lead to brazil and drop to 2-1 down with a 10 men brazil. In the final there was germany whom england swept aside in the group stages by 5-1. Atleast a cup for england could have eased the pain of the supporters but no they start to repeat their awful performance on and on. What a shame to these players.
