I bumped to YC’s blog, http://www.internetmarketingmind.com, today and I like the topic wrote by Gary Jones at JohnChow.com Gary asked “Have you ever stopped to ask yourself though what is holding you back from blogging?” and he also said that “Experts say that if you do something for 20 days straight you will then form a new habit into your daily routine”.

On top of that, he has kicked off a new group-writing project, by challenging anyone to post in his or her blog daily for 20 days straight (this number may varies from individual…but let’s go for it on this 20 days, shall we). To begin with, your first post will be on what is holding you back from blogging. Thereafter, share your post in a comment to Gary’s post on JohnChow.com, or a link back, and Gary will follow up with a compiled post list in a future article on JohnChow.com

As for me what holding me back is my time since I am still a 9to5 man on my conventional business. But for the past 2 months or so, I am starting to blog regularly. As YC said “Commit To Blogging, Commit To Success”. And apart from my work, my limitation is my time when at home. Being a family man, I tend to be busy when at home with my children. Then again I manage to overcome this for the past 2 months or so by making a time to write when they hit the sack.

Another thing that makes people holding back on blogging is this “Many business users still associate blogs with personal diaries”.

Moreover blogging is today’s trend for marketing exposure. Advertising is losing its appeal to other marketing methods, according to a trends survey by the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Spending on online marketing, including blogs, and customer relationship management is increasing while some traditional media are in reverse. So there is no reason for us to holding back our blogging activities.

I post here what the Chartered Institute of Marketing Director said about this marketing trend.

Geoff Hurst, said, “Playing by yesterday’s rules is not an option for the modern marketer. Keeping up to date with current thinking and maintaining skills have never been more important.” Most marketing people believe technology is accelerating the rate of change in promotion, however, and Hurst says, “It is interesting to note that a significant majority of marketers is still not making use of the full spectrum of technologies available to help them communicate with customers.”

So I think we should not holding back. Why? Blogging was highlighted as one way to reach customers and build brand image more effectively than traditional methods.
